Participants will develop skill to lead racial equity work in the unusual circumstances afforded in 2020. The course will focus on growing Equity Agency℠, the ability to engage in equitable practices and to create equitable environments, and Systemic Equity Leadership℠, the ability to lead, facilitate, and coach others to make changes that result in more equitable outcomes and experiences for all. The course addresses particular leadership challenges in onsite, hybrid, and virtual teaching environments.

Select articles and videos will seed deliberation about one’s racial and cultural identity, the history of race in the United States, implicit bias, and centering race in discussions of instruction and discipline. Participants will identify and practice coaching and leadership moves that can support growth of Equity Agency among education colleagues.

A component of the work will be to improve our ability to analyze data through the lens of racial equity.

In this course, participants will explore their own racial identities and how that impacts their work in education. Therefore, participants must be willing to discuss race and racial disparities and to investigate their own practices and biases. Teams from schools and districts are urged to participate together.

** Attention: If you wish to use this course for licensure renewal credit, make sure to always check with your school district for approval prior to registering for the course.
