Intended Audience: Middle and High School Science teachers who are currently not involved in research

Course Description: This event is hosted by the Belin-Blank Center. It is a face-to-face workshop is intended to provide participants with an overview of scientific research principles, guidance on designing and conducting student research projects, and strategies for analyzing and presenting research findings. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in interactive discussions, hands-on activities, and practical exercises to enhance their understanding and skills in incorporating scientific research into the middle school and high school science classroom.

Course Learning Goals:

  1. Introduce principles of science research for the classroom
  2. Introduce topics and issues related to science research topics
  3. Align research with Iowa and National science standards
  4. Provide practical options for classroom integration of student research

Course Requirements:

I. Attend the on-campus workshop: Incorporating Scientific Research into the Middle and High School Science Classroom. Participants will be assigned reflection and response to activities..

II. Participate in discussions during the on-campus workshop

III. Develop and reflect on a practical application of the workshop into current teaching responsibilities.

Course Materials: Materials for the course will be made available during the on-campus component and on online sites.
