Intended Audience: Participants accepted for the Summer 2025 Belin-Blank Talent Development Fellowship
Course Description: This blended course aligns with the Belin-Blank Talent Development Fellowship offered each summer by the Belin-Blank Center. Its content is approached as a survey of concepts, ideas, and issues pertinent to the development of talent (and its potential) in K-12 students. The key course content includes acceleration, appropriate curriculum and instruction, assessment and identification, collaborating with staff and families, differentiation, diverse student populations, social and emotional needs, and Belin-Blank Center research findings. The face-to-face component is complemented through independent project development and two remote sessions.
Course Learning Goals:
- Introduce key leaders and theories in the field of gifted education
- Introduce topics and issues related to talent development
- Address myths and misconceptions related to programming for advanced students
- Apply research-based instructional strategies
- Develop an original plan and/or product reflective of course content
- Foster advocacy for advanced students within school settings
Course Requirements:
I. Attend the on-campus Belin-Blank Talent Development Fellowship facilitated by the Belin-Blank Center on July 13 – 17, 2025. Participants will be assigned a variety of readings.
II. Participate in discussions during the on-campus Fellowship
III. Develop an interest-based project
IV. Meet twice remotely after the on-campus component (October and December)
V. Final project presentation
*The remote follow-up will be scheduled during the on-campus session. The exepctations for each of these sessions will be detailed prior to the conclusion of the on-campus Fellowship.
Participants are expected to attend the Belin-Blank Talent Development Fellowship and the two remote sessions.
Course Materials: Materials for the course will be made available during the on-campus component and on the course site.
