2 credits
Full course description
Intended Audience: Teachers participating in the annual University of Iowa Advanced Placement Summer Institute (APSI)
Course Description: Participants in the Belin-Blank Center's Advanced Placement Summer Institute (APSI) will focus on a specific content area and learn best practices in providing advanced content to students enrolled in Advanced Placement coursework during the academic year. Any school wishing to use the AP® designation for transcripts, course listings, or other publications must complete a new College Board Audit for each AP® course. Our AP® Summer Institute (APSI) will prepare every participant to successfully complete the course audit.
Course Objectives: Participants will learn strategies to develop an appropriate course syllabus and enrich their course content so that they can appropriately challenge high-ability learners to learn college-level content while in high school. Participants will also learn how to prepare students for the College Board Advanced Placement Exam.
Course Requirements: Participants will participate fully in all class requirements provided by College Board Advanced Placement Consultants. Consultants engage participants in content-area coursework, as well as in discussions about both content and preparation for the end-of-year College Board Exam. Participants who receive the APSI certificate, an endorsement from the College Board, in partnership with the University of Iowa College of Education’s Belin-Blank Center, have fulfilled course requirements.
Course Materials: All participant will receive the course materials that they need on July 21.
